RPMASA 2011 2nd International Transport & Environment Conference “Producer Responsibility – a value chain approach to protect people & the environment” Resolutions:

Peter MacKay, Editor of the International Hazardous Cargo Bulletin summed up the Conference resolutions at the end of day 2 as,
We:–
1. Commit to promoting awareness of the transport of dangerous goods & the safety and environmental issues involved.
2. Commit to ensuring appropriately trained personnel are involved in the transport and handling of dangerous goods.
3. Commit to self-regulation using appropriate codes, standards and risk assessment methodologies, throughout the supply chain.
4. Call on government agencies to commit to effective and consistent enforcement of legislation and standards.
5. Call on the DOT – Dept Transport, to streamline the legislative and regulatory framework.
6. Resolve to return to Durban in 2013for the next Conference and look forward to being able to report significant progress.

He put a short article on the Conference on his weekly electronic bulletin and advised a full report to follow in the April edition

The GHS training by the UNITAR / Orange House Partnership that followed led by Dr Herman Koeter was well attended in both Durban and Gauteng went exceedingly well, with many requests for more training sessions! Participants came from a good mix of National, Provincial and Local government as well as Industry.
